BEFORE started in 1997 as two bands that came together for one purpose. They hail from northwest Houston, Texas and play a musical style that is a combination of everything from heavy to beautiful, usually leaning towards metal-core. Kline (bass) and Trey (guitar/vocals) of Dust, a heavy Christian rock band, met Stagg (vocals/guitar) and Jake (drums), who had been working together as BEFORE for years, in high school. As Stagg and Jake began attending local church with Kline and Trey, they also began playing in the youth group worship band. At the time, Stagg was playing the guitar, and the church band already had a guitarist and didn't need him. However, he continued to attend and worship the Lord with Jake, who was now in the church band with Trey and Kline. Trey had known Jordan (vocals) for years through the church and through Dust, and he suggested that the band see if Jordan would sing for BEFORE. At first, the band was hesitant to ask Jordan into the band as they wanted to take a more heavy direction and didn't know if Jordan was into that. But after deliberation, they asked him to join the band to complete BEFORE's first lineup. These five released a self-titled LP in April of 1999 and gained a following playing locally and making contacts. However, things changed as Jordan decided God was calling him to work in Dallas. As he moved away, the band was faced with a dilemma and they met to discuss the future prospects. As the Lord would have it, Kline's younger brother Pete, who'd only been playing guitar for a year and who had made considerable progress, seemed the perfect choice to come fill in the now open spot as Stagg took the mic. This band is the current lineup and they have an EP in the works. They continue to stand for the message of Jesus Christ in a world that won't believe. |
